If you're an American and you've never heard the theme song, or even music that reminds you of "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", then you've been hiding under a rock. This is one of three movies of the Western genre that Clint Eastwood starred in from the same director, Sergio Leone. When this movie first became available on DVD, I made sure I bought a copy. I had seen it on television before, but you know how television is. Scenes were cut for whatever reasons — usually to slip in a commercial or two.
The opening theme is a classic piece of music composed by Ennio Morricone, but it's not classical music. It's been used in sequences in television shows as well as other movies ever since it came out. The movie itself was filmed in Italy and possibly in Spain but I'm not sure about Spain. It's supposed to depict the state of New Mexico in the United States.
The story is about three people trying to get their hands on a case of gold. There really isn't much more to it. Don't let that stop you from watching it whenever you feel the urge because it's definitely worth watching more than once.
"The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" stars Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef. Here's the theatrical trailer:
