Captain Kirk (William Shatner) as Prime Minister of Canada?

Rumors like this scare me. Canada should be wary of having actors in the parliament, especially as Prime Minister. They should learn from the US, where Ronald Reagan served as the President for eight years and Arnold Schwarzenegger is currently serving as the Governor of California.
Look at the economy! Actors don't belong in politics!
The Rumor
I spotted the story about Captain Kirk at collegetimes.us and followed it to the source at The Vancouver Sun, where they had a decent video about the possibility of a Prime Minister William Shatner.
Look, I like "The Shat" as much as the next trekkie (which I'm not, just to be clear), but he's an actor without any experience in politics whatsoever. He'll be 78-year's old this month, for crying out loud!
William Shatner's Career
William Shatner's TV and movie career started before I was born. Well, he IS old enough to be my father and he's only two year's older than my mother.
He's probably best remembered for his role as Captain Kirk in "Star Trek (1966)", also called "Star Trek TOS" (The Original Series), a role he only filled for three years on TV (four if you count the animated series). He didn't actually attain his cultural icon status until 1979's "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". He went on to portray Admiral/Captain/Admiral Kirk in the six subsequent Star Trek movies.
A lot of people didn't know about William Shatner's sense of humor until he filled the role of "Denny Craig", first on "The Practice" in 1974 (the last season) and then on the spin-off called "Boston Legal", which just ended in 2008. You can find a whole bunch of hilarious clips on YouTube. I find his humor extremely funny.
Don't Screw With My Memory
My memories are filled with stories of Captain Kirk, TJ Hooker, and Denny Craig. If this is indeed just a rumor, please kill the rumor now. If it isn't, then I'm going to have to ignore anything about William Shatner until the day he dies because I don't want my fond memories of him screwed up by bad politics.
What do you think?

I think William Shatner will make it.Actors become politicans happened in america!
I dont agree with comedians and actors becoming politicians, politics is not meant to be entertaining and funny its serious business that could have a profound effect on someones life one way or another. Nothing irks me more when you see actors come out and voicing their politics it kills the fact of their acting skills in my opinion, they should stick to what they know how to entertain not how to govern.
I think he has an evil side to him, he just has that feel of world domination lol

I like the Shat, and I love his Raw Nerve on A.E., but let's leave it there. I don't know much about Canadian Politics, but I never want another Actor as our President. We had one in the 80's and the last President was just a bad Actor…Acting as a President.
The celebrity as politician? It's probably more mainstream than an aberration these days with Reagan, Schwarzenegger, Jessie Ventura and most recently Al Franken as a U.S. senator. Shatner's effectiveness in any leadership role for Canada would be one of promoting tourism for his native country. Would he be Labor or Conservative?
