What will you do when you have your midlife crisis? The members of the suburban Wild Hogs "gang" decided to take a motorcycle road trip from Cincinnati, Ohio, to the U.S. Pacific coast.

Along the way, they kept getting in trouble, one way or another. Particularly amusing was the intrusion, on 2 occasions, of the gay cop. It all culminates in a street brawl between the 4 members of Wild Hogs and a real biker gang. The story is played for laughs all the way through, which is what any good comedy should do.

Wild Hogs stars Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, William H. Macy and others with a special appearance by Peter Fonda. Here's the trailer:

Hitman is an action-packed movie based on a video game. I don't normally like this kind of movie, but I found this one enjoyable.

The hitman, known only as Agent 47, gets set up to be taken out by his own organization. The rest of the movie is about him going after the double of the man he killed, who happened to be the one who paid the organization to kill the original. There's a little nudity in it, but not enough to make that part of it interesting.

This is the third movie (that I'm aware of) that's based on the original novel, I Am Legend, by Richard Matheson and published in 1954. I've never read the book, but now that I've seen all 3 movies, I'll be getting it soon.

In this story, a man-made plague has wiped out most of civilization and Robert Neville is the only person left who can create a cure because he's immune to the virus. The other survivors have mutated into vampire-like monstrosities bent on eating anyone who isn't infected.

I've learned one thing from watching the 3 movies. If your name is Robert Neville, you'd better change it because Robert Neville always dies, one way or another. I can't say I enjoyed this movie any more than its predecessors, except for the addition of the dog.

I Am Legend stars Will Smith, Salli Richardson, Alice Braga, a dog named Abby and not enough of anyone else to mention. Here's one of the trailers:

My son persuaded me to watch The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising with him. It was a load of crap, in my humble opinion.

Will Stanton, on his 14th birthday, finds out he is "the seeker" and has to collect 6 signs before "the rider" unleashes darkness on the world.

What the movie failed to explain, until near the end, is why Will was the seeker in the first place and why things didn't start happening until he was 14.

Judging by the reviews at IMDB and comparing the movie with the plot of the book series started over 40 years ago, I think I'm correct in my opinion that this movie isn't worth the time to watch it.

The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising stars Alexander Ludwig, Christopher Eccleston and a bunch of other forgettable actors. Here's a trailer:

House M.D. is another of those television shows about doctors and hospitals that I would never intentionally watch. I watched 3 episodes, however, when I was held captive on a flight from the Philippines to Phoenix, on the leg from Guam to Honolulu.

Dr. House is an ass, and freely admits to it. He hires and fires doctors on his team for all the wrong reasons and gets away with it. Why? Because he's a brilliant doctor who's a kind of medical detective, searching for the cause of an affliction, not just treating the symptoms.

This is an excellent show and I don't know how I managed to miss it since 2004, even intentionally. Perhaps it was those 12 hour work days that went from 5 pm to 5 am. I probably missed more than my fair share of excellent programming.

House M.D. stars Hugh Laurie and an ever-changing cast of supporting characters. The 3 episodes I saw also had Kal Penn (Van Wilder, Harold & Kumar), which was an amusing addition. Here's a popular scene:

The Nanny Diaries is one of those movies I would never intentionally watch. I was, however, a captive audience while on a flight from the Philippines to the United States, on the leg that stopped in Guam. I watched it because it was the only thing to watch.

The story is about a young lady, fresh out of college, who decides being a nanny would be her chosen profession. It wasn't really boring, but it wasn't exciting either. Billed as a comedy/drama, I expected more laughs, but they didn't come.

The "Papaya" dance number was part of an album put together by famous Filipino actor, politician, TV host and comedian Eduardo "Edu" Manzano in 2007 called "World’s Greatest Dance Steps".

The video is taken from the popular game show, "Pilipinas Game KNB", a TV show he hosts here in the Philippines. He's dressed in 70s disco regalia to emphasize the style of the music. The actual Papaya song doesn't start until about a minute after the video starts. The song is annoying, but it grows on you. "Spiders On Drugs" is one of those videos that makes you scratch your head at first. A friend sent me the link and I thought it was a documentary (and I was wondering why he would send me this kind of thing) until I got to the part with the restraining order. Okay, okay, I won't give anything else away. Enjoy the show.

A few years before "Spider-Man (2002)", Tobey Maguire starred in this charming flick about the simpler life of the 50s (in the USA) and the end of innocence. Most of the movie is in black and white, as intended, which causes the splashes of color to stand out even more.

Having grown up in the 60s, I can tell you that most television shows were still like that when I was a pre-teen. Parents slept in separate beds, children were respectful to their parents, there wasn't any swearing, and there's a whole lot more I don't even remember. Pleasantville is a "pleasant" reminder of simpler times and simpler things.
